ELCO'S MISSION STATEMENT
“To provide quality educational opportunities for all students so that, as citizens, they can successfully meet the challenges and responsibilities of the future.”
I. Behavior/Professionalism
• Students are responsible for maintaining proper behavior, which respects the rights, properties, and opinions of all individuals involved in the educational process.
• Students will not disrupt the learning process in any way. Proper behavior includes raising hand to talk, working quietly in groups, and not disturbing others.
• Students are to come prepared for class each day. Books, notebooks, and a pen or pencil are required to do assignments. Cell phones are not! DO NOT do assignments in RED INK.
II. Attendance
• Students are responsible to report to class on time. Students must have a valid pass for a class tardy or early dismissal and are responsible for all work missed while out of the classroom.
• All assignments missed due to an excused class absence must be made up within 2 days of returning to class. Special consideration will be given to extended absences. Please refer to "Attendance" in your Student Handbook (page 31) and “Homework Make-up” on page 14.
III. Educational Materials – Students are responsible for any damage and proper care of educational materials and school property including desks, textbooks, calculators, templates, rulers, compasses, protractors, computers, etc.
IV. Classroom Participation – Students are responsible for coming prepared to class, participating in classroom discussions and group activities, and for completing assigned work. Students are encouraged to ask questions when not clear about topics or assignments. Students will lose class participation points when not prepared for class.
V. Grading Procedures – Grades will be established as follows:
• Student grades will be based on tests (25% to 35%), Quizzes (25% to 35%), Projects/Class Activities (10% to 20%), homework (10%), and class participation (10%).
• Students will keep all quizzes and tests in a notebook that stays in class, and keep a record of their assignments in the front of their notebooks in order to track their own grades.
• Homework is important to learn the material being taught. Homework will be collected and graded at least once per week, but will be monitored most days.
• Classroom participation is given at 10%, but will be reduced by not bringing book, notebook, pen or pencil, or misbehaving in class.
• Remember, grades are earned throughout the marking period, not during the last week of the marking period. It is a marathon, not a sprint.
• Students will receive letter grades based on their percent as outlined in the Student Handbook (pg. 20).
MR. GERBERICH’S SPECIAL CLASSROOM RULES
Students are responsible for following the specific classroom rules as follows, besides following all rules outlined in the Student Handbook. If the student follows these rules and procedures, and practices the material by doing their homework, he or she will find success in mathematics’ class. Coming from a business background, my hope is not only to teach students mathematics, but life-long learning skills, problem-solving skills, and how to work effectively in groups or as a team.
• NO CELL PHONES. This is a no tolerance policy.
• Be On Time and Prepared – Students are responsible to enter the classroom with textbook, notebook, and pencil/pen, and be seated and ready to begin class when the bell rings every day.
• Mature behavior is expected at all times. Only appropriate language is to be used. Swearing, negative, and derogatory language will not be tolerated.
• Student must have his or her own handbook in order to use the restroom.
• Work Quietly/Listen Quietly – When working on an assignment, listening to a discussion or lecture, or doing a group activity, students are to work quietly and stay focused on the assignment.
• Homework – Homework is an important part of the learning process. It must be handed in on the day it is due. Late homework is not accepted for a grade, unless due to absence. If student misses 3 straight homework assignments or turns in less than 50% of the assigned homework a in a report period, a call will be given to the parents, and any missed assignments after that may result in detention.
• Period 3 is a scheduled class. Mathematics work will be done. Attendance is required.
• All food is to be consumed in the cafeteria. There will be no lollipops, snack foods, or drinks of any kind consumed in the classroom (water in clear bottles only).
• Please do not sit on the desktops. Respect the school property. Also respect each other.
CLASSROOM CONSEQUENCES
The student will first be reminded of the appropriate class behavior. A second warning will require a student/teacher conference following class. Subsequent actions will be a phone call to the parent or detention. Detention may be either held with myself or with the regular school detention. Please refer to "Discipline" in your Student Handbook (pages 26 to 30).
